My favorite part of my job is knowing the more wild, or barn cats, will be healthier at this same time next year. When I had the mobile unit I loved seeing the crazy, scrawny cats of the year before, now much mellower and thriving.

I love working in veterinary medicine because I get to educate people about preventative medicine and get to connect with families. I love working at IHA because I get to give back to my community and help prevent pet overpopulation. Fun fact, I started out working at IHA as a tech before I went into vet school in 2014!

It is fulfilling to help animals and their humans. I love the variety and different rewards and challenges veterinary medicine brings each day, sometimes intellectual, sometimes physical, and sometimes emotional. Here at IHA, I feel like I’m making a difference in the lives of many animals and helping to address pet overpopulation.

First and foremost, the interaction with the animals is what I love about veterinary medicine. Trying to keep pets healthy and also being there for them when they are sick or injured, all to promote the human/animal bond. It’s such a caring AND professional atmosphere here at IHA. Obviously, we all love animals here, but working and learning here has really allowed me to follow my passion of reducing the numbers of community animals by spaying/neutering them and preventing unneeded litters. I also volunteer every week at Safe Haven of Iowa County Animal Shelter. I am very proud and happy to have built up a veterinary surgical suite from scratch there and it is all staffed with volunteers. We treat the shelter animals both medically and surgically. It is so very rewarding!

I love helping clients make educated decisions about their pets care, extending health span for pets, surgery, and dentistry. I love working at IHA with such a great, highly efficient team, all the surgery, and helping with the pet population crisis.
