Iowa Humane Alliance is a mission driven, non-profit organization that focuses on high-volume, low-cost, best practice quality spay and neuter surgeries.  Our regional clinic, located in Cedar Rapids, is 1 of 140, known nationally and mentored by Humane Alliance in Asheville, North Carolina. Our clinic is the first of its kind in Iowa and we routinely accomplish our primary goal of performing 40-50 surgeries per day. Since opening in 2013, we have spayed or neutered over 63,000 animals.

Veterinary Technician – full time position

Our team is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented leader who has the stamina and ability to multitask in a busy environment.

We would prefer our candidate possess the following:

  • Knowledge of animal behavior and practical experience handling pet animals, feral cats, and fractious dogs.
  • Be capable of overseeing every aspect of patient care from pre-surgical exams to post-op recovery.
  • Ability to communicate with clients and team members in a concise effective manner.
  • Proficient technical skills which include: drawing blood, intubating, placing an IV catheter, administering IM and IV drugs, and monitoring under anesthesia.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Preparing drugs for surgical patients.
  • Maintaining an accurate drug log.
  • Documenting information on medical records.
  • Maintaining surgical flow.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to other team members.

Veterinary Assistant – full or part time position

We are looking for an energetic, attentive team member that thrives in an efficient routine work setting.

We would prefer our candidate possess the following:

  • Knowledge of animal behavior including feral cats
  • Experience restraining pet animals for exams.
  • Ability to administer SQ and IM injections.
  • Attention to detail, which involves, the ability to observe and calculate a patient’s heart and respiration rate.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Preparation of patients for surgery including, shaving and cleaning of surgical field.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting of the holding cages, surgical suite, preparation station, and common clinic areas.
  • Scrubbing instruments and preparing surgical packs to be autoclaved.
  • Draw up patient’s drugs in accordance with our drug protocol.
  • Monitor patients prior to anesthesia, during surgery and recovery.
